Prologue - The Four: book one of  The Elements

          It has been a great many years since war has been seen within the borders of Terlib and it has been a generation since the invasion of the Kriengan, a band of nomad giants, made it north of the Trimez mountains which had to be turned back by the gathered strength of the Northern most villages and cities.  Though the survivors remain, the horrors of war have moved to the recesses of their minds as is typical of terrible memories that should be forgotten.  Now the threat is on the horizon again.
          The ancient magic, which is all but forgotten, is becoming imbalanced and is felt by many who still have the gift of the Natural Elements attached deep within their souls.  The gift of the Earth, Water, Air and Fire elements are still present in varying degrees even if those with the gift are unaware of their existence.  The imbalance manifests itself in an uneasy tension within the general population who search for something to believe in, someone to follow.  The cause of the imbalance: Emperor Kasikan.  He drives the Niwrad Empire north so that he can take advantage of the people’s anxiety and bring all of the lands under his domain of darkness.  Using the Humanistic Elements Kasikan forces his way into peoples minds to read their thoughts and to do his bidding for all to come under his law of the strongest should lead because they are good and everyone else serves the greater good.  The greater good is Kasikan.  He seeks any person containing a hint of the Natural Elements so he can gain control over their gift, either controlling them or killing them and taking their gift for his own.  There are only two choices: to become his slave or fall victim to his destruction machine mutilates the lands, crushing them to ash and darkness, with rains that melt the stone, winds that do not blow or only move stagnant air and fires that rage and obliterate all life that stands before it.  The slaves live in the waste that remains.

          The time has come for the Gem Stones of the Four Elementals to resurface in the world and find four souls that will exemplify Earth, Water, Air and Fire and use their power to put a stop to Niwrad and its Emperor.
